Just came back from brussels and there was the belgium music festival Pukkelpop with bands like Iron Maiden, Placebo, Soulwax, Deadmau5, Blink 182, Boys Noize, Bloody Beetroots, Pendulum [...] Dreamy setup huh ? Not so onirical when you hear about backstage story of the well-known british band Ou Est Le Swimming Pool.
22 year old Charles Haddon of the band Ou Est Le Swimming Pool commit suicide Friday night after he jumped off a telecommunications mast and into a parking lot at the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium.
This news comes in the same week that a man jumped to his death at a Swell Season concert.
Unbelievably awful and tragic.
Our thoughts our with the families and all the people who had to witness such a horrific event.
Aeroplane released a mashup of the most listened song on my iTunes ; they did a remix that I posted a while back of Paris by Friendly Fires featuring Au Revoir Simone. The name Friendly Fires was chosen from the now old school Always Now EP of Section 25 but it also brings back to me memories of “Everybody knows it’s gonna happen Only not tonight” by the Go Find:
Ooh, let me take you back
To the 90s
When we were teens
Oh, no mountain caps
Or a friendly fire
But secret desire
Back on the topic, they mashed up Crave You by Flight Facilities with the earlier made aeroplane edit. Giselle Rosselli is featured on that track and they mainly used her lyrics on top of the great melody she built up. I might be going crazy, but the instrumental samples used in the Flight Facilities track are the same than on the Roland TR 909 that I messed with months ago. The mashup was released fifteen days ago on soundcloud and they did a major breakthrough with more than 30k listeners. Enjoy this italo-sound with an australian twist.
We already shared the 500 days of summer soundtrack last year but lately I have been listening to the track “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” by The Smiths and the She & Him cover. Since this is a “on the spur of the moment” music blog I will be reposting them unpacked. I love how both tracks could be listened back to back. The cover also brings up a new perspective about the story. It is the most relevant track on the OST considering how unhappy he was untill he could find the right girl [...] or who he thought was the one.
I have been hunting tracks for the past few hours and the result is juicy.
Metsi is a polish dj/producer that exceeds in the mashup/bootleg business. You can contact him via soundcloud or might also give Laidback Luke’s forum a try since he is a member over there. From what I know Laidback Luke is very active in his threads so you should give it a look if you are into music producing.
Fake Blood put up a great show when he came in Montreal around New Year’s Eve @ Les Foufounes Électriques. Tommie Sunshine is well known in the electro remix industry so lets see what Figure’s Brooklyn sound can bring into this funky edit.
Cali is way too lucky with all the talented djs they have over there (and the new open debate about legalizing marijuana). Audiobot is one of them and he brings up a new sound.
We can’t go wrong with Diplo producing with Hyper Crush. That crew got a lot of hype with the Bulletproof remix they did earlier this year. Good luck Donny, Holly & Preston.
Loving the Fake Blood song. I have another remix of this song, but can’t seem to find it in iTunes. This is one of those tracks where the original is incredible and nearly anything done to it makes it that much more incredible!

“Person who inhabits the New York and sorrounding areas, who has a Puerto Rican ancestry, listen to reggeaton, walk around being “proud” to be Puerto Rican and carry a knife to stab someone, BUT actually have never been to PR, do not speak any spanish and have absolutely no idea what PR is all about.” via Urban Dictionary
I don’t think this is the definition we are looking for but it still made me laugh. Anyhow, sick bangers ahead so get ready for nouveau yorican’s vibe. I have always been a fan of Laidback Luke but I kinda lost track of him when I went off the popular electro chart. I’m thrilled he adapts to the new electro wave considering he has one of the cleanest song build ups to mix.
I also found a ETC!ETC! & Mr. Vega‘s bootleg of ‘Jackit’ by Nouveau Yorican while browsing to find some stuff around the EP. I have never disliked his work unlike some of the mass remixers out there. Keep up the twisted beats.
Another recent duo announcement has been made with DJ Mehdi & Riton under the name Carte Blanche. They already have an ep and a mixtape out. I already knew Riton because of his Wolfmother – New Moon Rising’s vocal rub and no introduction needed for DJ Mehdi. Enjoy those two oldschool dance music videos but you might see your mom in those.

I knew scanning those old playboy magazines would of come handy someday. So here it is, I’ve built a small summer playlist that you should burn on a CD real quick cause those tracks are as hot as your mom in this front page featuring. From disco to italo electro slash dub, they get me hype and ready for the 40 degrees celcius summer.
How can we bring a top A track to another level? Ask Midnight Conspiracy, I got no clue on how they did that fantastic remix ; brigning back an amazing track for the win.
Considering their 4:20 released track, this mashup/edit is perfect for drugs discussers’ Calvin Harris and Peace Treaty. Dan Aux keeps up with that ridiculously slick sound.
No introduction needed for Lazaro Casanova, he is the shit in lounge music. You can ask him questions via the mstrkrft forum or listen to most of his releases for free on soundclound. Make sure to check out his charts on his website. He isn’t coming to montreal for his 2010 tour but lets put some pressure for next year.
haha i knew buying those old playboys with you would eventually serve… mais, how cum you got the good ones?? t’as celui avec ”Cheech and Chong, The Playboy Interview”??? september 1982 FTW…
All you electro-music listeners need to know your roots. So what is jungle music? Most of the forty years old were dancing on this considering the emergence of those beats around 1990. I will let you guys figure it out with an official definition and a collection of oldschool & newschool jungle.
“Oldschool Jungle is the name given to a style of electronic music that incorporates influences from genres including breakbeat hardcore, techno, and reggae/dub/dancehall. There is significant debate as to whether jungle is a separate genre from drum and bass as some use the terms interchangeably. Drum and bass started to separate musically from jungle in the mid to late 1990s, in which there is a fuzzy period where it is harder to distinguish the difference between the two genres. There is much politics attached to labelling different tracks as a specific genre.”
“Carl Edward Sagan (November 9, 1934 – December 20, 1996) was an American astronomer, astrophysicist, author, cosmologist, and highly successful popularizer of astronomy, astrophysics and other natural sciences. During his lifetime, he published more than 600 scientific papers and popular articles and was author, co-author, or editor of more than 20 books. In his works, he advocated skeptical inquiry and the scientific method. He pioneered exobiology and promoted the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI).” via wikipedia
Doorly sent us this track last weekend. He changed his dubstep style for this train-made remix of what seems like the new “You’ve got the love” buzz. I will let you guys discover what seems to be a hit for this summer.
From the book Marijuana Reconsidered, Carl Sagan wrote under the pseudonym Mr. X which was revealed after his death.
” I do not consider myself a religious person in the usual sense, but there is a religious aspect to some highs. The heightened sensitivity in all areas gives me a feeling of communion with my surroundings, both animate and inanimate. Sometimes a kind of existential perception of the absurd comes over me and I see with awful certainty the hypocrisies and posturing of myself and my fellow men. And at other times, there is a different sense of the absurd, a playful and whimsical awareness. Both of these senses of the absurd can be communicated, and some of the most rewarding highs I’ve had have been in sharing talk and perceptions and humor. Cannabis brings us an awareness that we spend a lifetime being trained to overlook and forget and put out of our minds. A sense of what the world is really like can be maddening; cannabis has brought me some feelings for what it is like to be crazy, and how we use that word ‘crazy’ to avoid thinking about things that are too painful for us. In the Soviet Union political dissidents are routinely placed in insane asylums. The same kind of thing, a little more subtle perhaps, occurs here: ‘did you hear what Lenny Bruce said yesterday? He must be crazy.’ When high on cannabis I discovered that there’s somebody inside in those people we call mad.”
Considering it’s 4:20, I couldn’t resist to post this sick track produced by Major Lazer (Diplo & Switch) last summer.
” When I’m high I can penetrate into the past, recall childhood memories, friends, relatives, playthings, streets, smells, sounds, and tastes from a vanished era. I can reconstruct the actual occurrences in childhood events only half understood at the time. Many but not all my cannabis trips have somewhere in them a symbolism significant to me which I won’t attempt to describe here, a kind of mandala embossed on the high. Free-associating to this mandala, both visually and as plays on words, has produced a very rich array of insights.
There is a myth about such highs: the user has an illusion of great insight, but it does not survive scrutiny in the morning. I am convinced that this is an error, and that the devastating insights achieved when high are real insights; the main problem is putting these insights in a form acceptable to the quite different self that we are when we’re down the next day. Some of the hardest work I’ve ever done has been to put such insights down on tape or in writing. The problem is that ten even more interesting ideas or images have to be lost in the effort of recording one. It is easy to understand why someone might think it’s a waste of effort going to all that trouble to set the thought down, a kind of intrusion of the Protestant Ethic. But since I live almost all my life down I’ve made the effort – successfully, I think. Incidentally, I find that reasonably good insights can be remembered the next day, but only if some effort has been made to set them down another way. If I write the insight down or tell it to someone, then I can remember it with no assistance the following morning; but if I merely say to myself that I must make an effort to remember, I never do. ” via boingboing
Two Door Cinema Club c’est un des seuls band que j’aime toute la majorité de leurs chansons. Sans compter que j’ai toujours un sourire quand j’écoute “What You Know” ou “Something Good Can Work”. Spread the smiles.
“His remix has really grown on me since I did it – Kenneth’s parts were so beautifully recorded and there was a lot to play with, including some amazing Hi-life style guitar which reminded me of Herbie Hancock’s v balearic Soundsystem album. Anyone who knows New Jersey House classic ‘Let the rain Come Down’ by Intense will know where I stole the idea for the rain sound fx! And I had lot’s of fun programming the 707 drum parts on this which are a big nod to the master Mr Larry Heard. Enjoy!” by Leo Zero
no clue, their site was down when I uploaded the song so I guess it got lost
that OR he did too much – censored – and his name is now ban from hypem
oh no, some dirty keywords that will attract weird people to this website.
On a reçu la semaine passée la nouvelle création de Ou Est Le Swimming Pool (suite à ‘Dance The Way I feel’). Tiesto est remonté dans mon estime avec son producing sur “Tongue N’ Cheek” de Dizzee Rascal alors je lui ai donné une deuxième écoute pour son remix de ‘These New Knights’ par Ou Est Le Swimming Pool.
i like the bangers keep on posting thanks for the tunes
